Spalted Ambrosia Maple is soft maple that has both ambrosia streaking and spalting.  Ambrosia refers to streaking that is caused by intrusion of the ambrosia beetle, which bores into the tree, and with it bring fungus that discolors the wood. Spalting, a term for partial decay, gives the wood dark contrasting lines and streaks where fungus has begun to attack the wood.  It is fairly easy to work with both hand and machine tools, though maple has a tendency to burn when being machined with high-speed cutters such as in a router.  It turns, glues, and finishes well.  Common uses include veneer, paper (pulpwood),  boxes, crates/pallets, musical instruments, turned objects, and other small specialty wood items.  These blanks are green/undried and are fully sealed with wax.  8" x 4" Round Bowl Turning Blank.
